News Corp, The Guardian among news companies demanding quick Australian media code legislation

( November 22, 2020, 23:26 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Media companies including News Corp Australia, The Guardian and Nine Entertainment have written a joint statement demanding quick legislation of a media code of conduct to govern the commercial relationships Facebook and Google have with news companies in Australia. The 10 Australian news signatories to the joint statement have said the final code, undergoing final drafting before being introduced to parliament, must include the Australian competition regulator's proposed "final offer arbitration" model, non-discrimination clauses, apply to all services offered by Google and Facebook and require that digital platforms exchange "all relevant information" with news media "that is required for a fair and balanced commercial negotiation."The full statement from Australian media companies is attached below:...
