Jakarta court adds to corrupt former energy ministry official's jail time

( June 3, 2016, 06:36 GMT | Insight) -- The Jakarta High Court has extended a prison sentence for former energy ministry Secretary General Waryono Karno from six years to seven for corruption and providing kickbacks to a member of parliament, Detik.com reports.The Jakarta High Court has extended a prison sentence for former energy ministry Secretary General Waryono Karno from six years to seven for corruption and providing kickbacks to a member of parliament, Detik.com reports. The court granted an appeal by the prosecuting attorney against a ruling by the Jakarta Corruption Court on Sept. 16, 2015. The punishment was still lighter than the proescutor's initial demand for nine years imprisonment. Karno was found guilty for holding fictitious events using the state budget for 2012, which caused losses of 11 billion rupiah ($809,300). He was also found to have bribed MP Sutan Bhatoegana to the tune of $140,000 to smooth discussions on the ministry’s budget allocation....
