Australian companies aren't complying with updated whistleblower law, says ASIC chief

( May 6, 2021, 04:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia's corporate regulator has urged companies to review their whistleblowing programs to make sure they are up to date after a recent assessment by the agency found a number of areas where businesses were falling short. Cathie Armour, the head of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, said in a speech yesterday that close to half of the policies it reviewed omitted key elements on how to report suspected misconduct as well as details on the protections whistleblowers would be afforded. Armour added that 21 percent of policies it checked stated that anonymous reports do not qualify for protection under the law, which is no longer true since the law was updated in 2019. ...
