Netherlands welcomes EU foreign-subsidies proposal; criticizes lack of particular focus

( May 5, 2021, 12:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Dutch government today welcomed the European Commission's legislative proposal, under which companies using government support from non-EU countries to compete unfairly with EU businesses may be investigated and fined, the secretary of state said. It is now crucial to make this proposal “as efficient and effective as possible, and to implement it quickly,” Mona Keijzer said. However, the proposal doesn't specifically look at businesses having an unregulated dominant position on their domestic market, “which is one of the components of the Dutch proposal,” she said. The Netherlands will send an official position on legislation as part of the EU Industrial Strategy package to the House of Representatives in the coming months, which will then be discussed by ministers at the EU Competitiveness Council and in the European Parliament.Statement follows. ...
