Federal laws shielding online companies such as eBay, Facebook and Amazon from liability for third-party content also protect them, they argue. But if courts disagree, more local regulations on short-terms rental sites are sure to follow.With housing costs rising in big cities across the US, local and state officials from San Francisco to New York are cracking down on short-term rentals on home-sharing sites such as Airbnb and Homeaway....
