Bharti Airtel will assume 20 billion rupees ($306.4 million) of the 100 billion rupees in spectrum fees that Tata still owes the Department of Telecommunications, but will otherwise be acquiring the mobile operations on a debt-free, cash-free basis. The transaction comes as India's telecoms sector undergoes major consolidation, including an anticipated merger between Vodafone India and Idea Cellular that would create an even bigger telco than Bharti Airtel....
