US crypto regulation would fall primarily to CFTC under bipartisan Senate Agriculture Committee bill

( August 3, 2022, 16:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Senate Agriculture Committee chair and its top Republican introduced legislation to make the Commodity Futures Trading Commission the regulator of the two biggest cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and Ether, as well as the platforms on which they’re traded. The remaining digital currencies would be overseen by both the CFTC and the Securities and Exchange Commission under the bill sponsored by Chair Debbie Stabenow of Michigan and ranking Republican John Boozman of Arkansas. Another bipartisan Senate bill, introduced in June, also would give the CFTC primary crypto oversight responsibility. See statement and documents below....
