Paris deal, climate migrants win support from EU Parliament

( September 8, 2016, 15:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU must quickly approve ratification of a UN climate deal agreed last year in Paris “to ensure its rapid entry into force,” members of the European Parliament environment committee said today. The lawmakers also called for “recognition of the issue of climate refugees, saying that climate-related developments in parts of Africa and the Middle East could contribute to political instability, economic hardship and an escalation of the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean.” In addition, committee members discussed the UK Brexit vote, saying that the EU should honor the Paris deal “in spite of any changes of status of EU member states.”Full statement follows:...
