Panama to seek extradition of ex-president Martinelli

( May 26, 2016, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Panamanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Thursday that it has received a request from the country's Supreme Court to seek extradition of former President Ricardo Martinelli. Prosecutors are investigating allegations including charges of corruption and illegal surveillance. Some of the allegations of bribery are linked to a purchase of helicopters and radars from an Italian defense contractor and to a software procurement by the Social Security Institute for which a US executive pleaded guilty under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
