Tencent, Sina, Baidu hit with fines for failing to remove illegal online information

By Xu Yuan ( September 25, 2017, 09:30 GMT | Insight) -- Chinese Internet giants Tencent, Sina and Baidu have been fined by regional regulators over their failure to remove online information prohibited by Chinese laws. Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, and WeChat, Tencent's messaging platform, were each hit with the maximum fines for the violation: 500,000 yuan ($76,000).
