Senator: SEC hack shows need for better cybersecurity, agency shouldn't limit oversight

Warner, a Virginia Democrat who serves as vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has released a statement on the Securities and Exchange Commission disclosure that its corporate filing system was hacked in 2016 and information may have used for illegal stock trades. "The SEC's disclosure, which comes not even two weeks after Equifax revealed that it had been hacked, shows that government and businesses need to step up their efforts to protect our most sensitive personal and commercial information," Warner said.
