Ex-Guinea mining minister seeks stay of house forfeiture in money laundering case

( September 19, 2017, 22:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Mahmoud Thiam, Guinea's former minister of mines, has asked a federal judge to stay the forfeiture of a New York house pending appeal of his conviction for money laundering. Thiam was convicted May 3, and on August 25 the judge ordered forfeiture of the house, which was financed in part from bribes paid to Thiam by a Chinese company seeking mining concessions in Guinea. Thiam has filed an appeal of his conviction and the resulting seven-year prison sentence.Please see attached document....
