KPMG faces legal action from South African tax authority after withdrawing report

( September 18, 2017, 18:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: KPMG International faces potential legal action from South Africa's tax authority after it said that a report it wrote for the agency about an alleged rogue spy-unit in its ranks could "no longer be relied upon." KPMG made the statement on Friday, as a result of an internal investigation into its South African unit, the work the unit did for the Gupta family, and the country's tax body. The Guptas have been accused of wielding undue influence over South African President Jacob Zuma and other state-owned entities. The probe found no evidence of corruption, but did find work that "fell considerably short" of its standards; and seven senior executives at the South African subsidiary have since offered resignations.Full statement follows. ...
