Fender targeted by planned UK mass claim over guitar online resale price maintenance

( July 6, 2022, 16:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Fender, the music instrument maker, has been targeted by a proposed UK collective claim over online resale price maintenance of its guitars. The application to the Competition Appeal Tribunal, by class representative Elisabetta Sciallis, has argued Fender "entered in to agreements and/or concerted practices" not to advertise or sell online Fender products below a minimum price. In 2020, Fender was fined 4.5 million pounds by the UK's antitrust agency for breaking competition law in restricting online discounting for its instruments. The Competition and Markets Authority found that the company operated a restrictive pricing policy between 2013 and 2018, requiring guitars to be sold at or above a minimum amount.Statement follows.
