Apple's proposed protective order 'strikingly overbroad,' Google tells US court in DOJ smartphone monopoly case

( October 8, 2024, 22:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google told a US federal judge that proposed protective orders by both the Department of Justice and Apple in a landmark monopolization lawsuit involving the smartphone market are inadequate. "Apple’s proposal is strikingly overbroad," Google said in objections filed to the US District of New Jersey. Apple’s proposal would allow Google’s confidential information such as research or commercial information to be shared with Apple’s executive leadership and Board members, the filing said. "The prejudice that will result from such disclosure is self-evident, particularly when the Complaint alleged that Apple engaged in anticompetitive conduct and that Google is one of 'only two companies' that 'remain as meaningful competitors to Apple'," it said.See attached document...
