Democratic Senators introduce bill to prohibit credit reporting agencies from charging fees to freeze files

( September 15, 2017, 19:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Democratic US Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Brian Schatz of Hawaii introduced legislation to require credit reporting agencies to freeze access to credit files at a consumer's request free of charge, following a data breach at Equifax that compromised the personal information of roughly 143 million people. The bill, called the Freedom from Equifax Exploitation Act, has been co-sponsored by 10 other Democrats, but no Republicans so far.Statement follows....
