Citizens’ challenge against EU 2018 climate rules dismissed by top EU court

( March 25, 2021, 09:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A legal challenge by families from various EU countries as well as Kenya and Fiji, seeking to strengthen a set of EU rules agreed in 2018 to curb greenhouse-gas emissions, was today dismissed by the EU’s Court of Justice. Judges at the EU’s top court sided with a previous ruling by the General Court, which found that the lawsuit was inadmissible as the appellants are not “individually concerned” by the suite of laws. “The claim that an act of the Union infringes fundamental rights is not sufficient in itself to establish that the action brought by an individual is admissible,” the EU’s top court said in a statement.A statement and the judgment are attached.
