South Korean regulators join forces to create safer digital environment

( April 16, 2024, 08:23 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea's privacy and communications regulators launched a joint policy council and held their first meeting today to strengthen cooperation on creating a safe digital environment. According to a joint statement by the Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Communications Commission, key agenda items included joint responses to illegal spam and personal-information infringement, enhancing the user rights for digital services and improving enforcement of regulations on foreign businesses, and establishing a foundation for strengthening damage relief for users of digital services. The two agencies plan to share information, conduct joint investigations and seek ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their dispute-mediation systems. They will also work together on evaluating the user-protection measures of telecommunications businesses and improving the domestic-agent system for foreign businesses to bolster enforcement.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
