Canada's Competition Bureau recommends harmonizing privacy, data governance rules to boost digital health care competition

( June 23, 2022, 15:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Canada's Competition Bureau has said that more needs to be done to help unlock the power of personal health information, so that the country's digital health care sector can fully benefit from competition. The agency made three recommendations to increase competition, the Bureau said in the first of a three-part report titled "Unlocking the power of health data." The recommendations are: harmonize privacy and data governance rules across Canada; require primary health care EMR companies to comply with anti-blocking rules; and establish interoperability standards for primary health care EMR systems. Governments can allow secure access and sharing of patient information, while putting rules in place to protect privacy and ensure patient consent, the report said. "Doing so invites a more competitive environment for companies to enter the market with new, cutting-edge digital solutions to better serve Canadian patients and health care providers," it said.Statement and document follow below:...
