Japan's antitrust leader calls for enforcement of 'unprecedented scale' against small business exploitation

( January 10, 2023, 08:46 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Japan Fair Trade Commission will keep a sharp eye on the exploitation of small and medium enterprises by their larger trading partners to ensure SMEs can justly pass on increased costs of resources and labor, said the regulator's chairman Kazuyuki Furuya in his annual New Year greeting statement published today. The JFTC will employ emergency investigations, probes, and self-evaluation requests on an "unprecedented scale" to ensure SMEs can secure the capital needed to raise wages as part of an all-government effort. Furuya also said that the JFTC will continue to assert its competition watchdog role in digital markets, freelance labor, and other key issues to strengthen corporate compliance and contribute to policy decisions for rules and regulations of other regulatory agencies.
