Free ETS allocations for CBAM-covered sectors should disappear by 2032, EU policymakers say

( June 22, 2022, 15:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Free Emissions Trading System allocations for companies in the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism sectors should be phased out between 2027 and 2032, the EU Parliament has proposed in a stance adopted today on the ETS revision. The text is the lawmakers’ initial position in the upcoming negotiations vis-à-vis EU governments to define the final legislative text, and was adopted after an initial failure earlier this month. The parliament also proposes to add a bonus-malus system for the distribution of free ETS allocations, and is temporarily trying to prevent private buildings and cars from being included in the ETS II.Press Release follows....
