French government blocks health data transfers from Health Data Hub to US after Privacy Shield annulment

( October 10, 2020, 19:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The French government has blocked all transfers of health data from the Health Data Hub* platform to the United States. The order, which was made on Oct. 9 and published in the country’s Official Journal today, states that “no transfer of personal data may be carried out outside the European Union.” The decree follows the European Court of Justice’s annulment on July 16, 2020 of the US-EU Privacy Shield, which had governed the transfer of data for more than 5,000 companies. The decision also follows the country’s digital state secretary Cédric O’s statement on Oct. 8 that the government is working on transferring health data in the Health Data Hub currently hosted on servers run by Microsoft to European cloud providers....
