Epic Games seeking injunction against Google-Samsung deal that blocks third-party Android app downloads

( September 30, 2024, 15:35 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Epic Games is asking a California federal judge to require Samsung to eliminate its Auto Blocker setting on smartphones by default and enable competition, the company said in a release. The setting, introduced by Samsung in October 2023, is an opt-in feature that disables the user’s ability to install apps from any sources other than the Google Play Store and the Samsung Galaxy Store. Google has expressed a strong desire to avoid competing with Samsung, and sought to pay Samsung to phase out the Samsung Galaxy Store, including as part of an initiative called Project Banyan, Epic Games said in the statement. In 2020, Google signed a revenue sharing agreement with Samsung following which it has not entered into exclusive deals with major game developers to launch on the Galaxy Store, Epic Games said.See document below....
