Google, Meta, TikTok appeals prompts Austrian court to refer questions on Austrian content law to EU high court

( June 20, 2022, 16:12 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Austrian Supreme Administrative Court has referred three questions on whether Austria's Communication Platforms Act conforms with the EU's Copyright Directive and the Audio Visual Media Services Directive following appeals by Google, Meta and TikTok. The social media companies argue that they shouldn't be subject to the Austrian Communications Authority's enforcement of the law, which requires them to implement a reporting and verification procedure for handling illegal content, because their headquarters are in Ireland and they should be subject to Irish regulations under the country of origin principle. Full press release below and decision is attached....
