App store operators in China get draft management guidelines on personal-information processing

( June 20, 2022, 10:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China’s TC 260, the country's standards-setting body on information security, has issued a set of draft guidelines for app store operators in China to manage personal-information processing by apps. Up for public comment until Aug.16, the draft stipulates app store operators should review personal-information processing rules submitted by app operators and their processing activities before putting apps onto shelves. How app operators collect sensitive personal information; violations such as repeated request to access unnecessary personal information; and providing ways for users to guarantee their rights in correcting and deleting personal information as well as withdrawing their consent, will be scrutinized. After apps are placed in app stores, operators must timely handle users’ complaints and issues exposed by regulators.
