German universities can use Zoom tools only with extra safeguards, privacy watchdog says

( June 17, 2022, 13:37 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Zoom, a US videoconferencing tool, can be used at universities in the German state of Hesse only if the establishments can categorically stop US authorities from accessing the content and metadata from such conferences, the state data protection authority has said. The universities will need to take extra measures including end-to-end encryption, to allow the secure use. The move comes after the EU court ruling in the Schrems II case, which said that data transfers to the US need extra safeguards.Statement follows in German....
