Airbnb shouldn't be subject to French real-estate broker rules, court opinion suggests

( April 30, 2019, 08:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Airbnb should be considered an "information society" service because it provides a platform for short-term rentals and doesn't exercise control over the service's essential procedures, according to Maciej Szpunar, an advocate general at the European Court of Justice. In his opinion, Szpunar said that a French rule on real-estate brokers can't be imposed on Airbnb because France didn't notify the European Commission — or Ireland, where Airbnb is based — that it wanted an exception to EU rules.
