ACCC proposes to allow Woolworths discount programs at BP sites, if merger is approved

( August 29, 2017, 03:27 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is proposing to allow participating BP service stations to accept Woolworths shopper dockets and participate in the Woolworths Rewards loyalty program, if BP is successful in acquiring Woolworths' service stations. However, because the antitrust watchdog has long standing concerns over the potential anticompetitive effects of these kinds of fuel discounts, the proposed authorization comes with the condition that the discounts from shopper dockets and the loyalty scheme do not exceed 4 cents per liter in total. The ACCC, which is still separately reviewing BP's proposed acquisition of Woolworths' network of service stations, is seeking inputs before it makes its final decision in October 2017.The regulator's statement follows and its draft determination is attached. ...
