Malaysian food markets targeted for reform in competition regulator's wide-ranging report

( August 7, 2019, 07:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Malaysia Competition Commission has released its final food sector review report, which makes 17 recommendations on how to address market issues and reduce the prices of key products beef, infant formula, fish and vegetables. The number of recommendations is up from 11 in the draft report. The commission's recommendations are addressed mostly to various government ministries and industry players, and aim to tackle the country's high level of dependence on imports and market inefficiencies. Specifically, the commission recommends the development of an integrated national animal feed policy, a comprehensive review of the agri-food supply chain, the promotion of fair trading practices across supply chains, and better education of market players on competition law, among other things.The full report is attached. ...
