CADE councilor gives federal prosecutors 20 days to comment on new evidence in plastics-cartel probe

( April 4, 2016, 16:44 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Councilor Alexandre Macedo Cordeiro of the Brazilian antitrust authority has asked the Federal Prosecution Office to comment in 20 days on new evidence collection in two plastics-cartel probes. Both investigations are related to the same cartel case and involve several manufacturers of plastics, including Asahi Kasei. Those under investigation are suspected of having taken part in an Asian plastic cartel that allegedly affected the Brazilian market. The Superintendence of the antitrust agency had recommended that the agency's upper-tier Tribunal close the probe due to lack of evidence in Brazil. However, federal prosecutors on March 16 suggested collecting new evidence in the case before deciding whether to close the probe. See documents attached (in Portuguese)....
