Malaysia's cybersecurity bill tabled in parliament

( March 25, 2024, 06:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Malaysia's digital ministry introduced a cybersecurity bill in parliament today, which outlines measures to boost the protection of critical information infrastructure across various sectors, including banking and finance, transportation, national defense, information and communications, health care, water, energy, agriculture and plantations, science and technology, and trade, industry and economy. Drafted by the National Cyber Security Agency, the bill will allow the government to designate entities as part of the National Critical Information Infrastructure, which would require compliance with certain cybersecurity standards. The bill also introduces licensing requirements for cybersecurity service providers, and empowers law enforcers with extensive investigative powers, including the authority to execute search and seizure operations both with and without a warrant. The bill is attached. ...
