​Japan's Recruit terminates data service over privacy-policy mishap

( August 6, 2019, 03:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan’s job-hunt platform Recruit Career announced it is ending its service of selling information about students’ likelihood of rejecting job offers to their potential employers after an internal investigation revealed that 7,983 student users didn’t consent to their information being sold. Recruit said that a privacy-policy change in March 2019 resulted in some students, registered with Recruit to prepare to enter the work force, not being led to the user-agreement page. The company last week announced a temporary suspension of the service after media reports of privacy concerns surfaced about its experimental service,, but on Monday it decided to terminate it altogether after the revelation. The company didn’t say how many students’ data in total were sold to the 38 companies after Recruit began providing the service in March 2018. Recruit said that it has notified the Personal Information Protection Commission of the matter.The company's statement, in Japanese, is attached....
