Social-media platforms must work together against explicit suicide content, TikTok says

( September 22, 2020, 12:49 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Video-sharing app TikTok has called upon other social-media platforms — such as Google, Facebook and Twitter — to form a coalition tackling the cross-posting of explicit and harmful content online, including graphic depiction of suicide and self-harm. The proposed solution, inspired by the existing mechanism on removing child-sex-abuse material, was outlined in a letter from TikTok's interim head Vanessa Pappas. Addressing the UK's parliament subcommittee on online harms, Theo Bertram, the company's head of public policy for the EMEA region, confirmed the letter was sent to Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube, Twitter, Twitch, Snapchat, Pinterest and Reddit.Statement below....
