Niece of former South Korean president's confidante declines to testify for Samsung heir in bribery appeal

Jang was summoned to testify at Lee’s appeal of his conviction for bribery related to the merger of two of Samsung's affiliates, a case that involved former President Park. Jang has herself been indicted for allegedly forcing Samsung Group to financially support Korea Winter Sports Elite Center, which she ran. The justice department accepted Jang's refusal to appear in court and has re-summoned her to appear on Dec. 11. The judge postponed today’s court session, because it could not proceed without her....
