US proposes tariffs on EU aircraft, food products to address Airbus subsidies

( April 8, 2019, 23:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US tariffs on helicopters, aircraft and aerospace parts from France, Germany, Spain and the UK are being considered in response to EU subsidies on aircraft manufacturer Airbus under Section 301 of the Trade  Act of 1974, the Office of the US Trade Representative announced. The US is also considering additional tariffs on dozens of food imports from any of the 28 EU member states, such as swordfish, crabs, cheese, wine and olive oil. "The USTR estimates the harm from the EU subsidies as $11 billion in trade each year.
