US CFTC, EU committed to mutual deference in regulation of derivatives markets, says CFTC's Tarbert

( September 18, 2020, 17:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU and US have now “determined and are implementing a mutually beneficial set of steps that promise clear, predictable and sound regulation and supervision for derivatives central counterparties,” according to US Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Heath Tarbert. He noted that the EU has adopted detailed laws to implement its deference regime for foreign clearinghouses and the CFTC has adopted a more deferential framework for compliance with US regulations. “This mutually deferential framework will give further clarity to central counterparties that are registered in the US and authorized to serve EU-based institutions and their clients.”Statement follows in full. ...
