Shipping vessels have been ordered to have a qualified engineer on board at all times, after the government found that 181 ships owned by 47 fishing companies didn’t have a qualified engineer and three of them were without a qualified captain. The ministry plans to increase the minimum penalty for sailing without an engineer from a 5 million won ($4,550) fine or one year in prison to five years in prison. The proposed change comes after a ship owned by Sajo Industries sank, leaving more than 50 crew members missing or dead, the report added....
