EU ready for no-deal Brexit in fisheries area, commissioner Vella says

( April 5, 2019, 11:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Two additional contingency measures on fisheries were presented today, "to mitigate the impact of a no-deal Brexit," said Karmenu Vella, the Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The first measure guarantees reciprocal fishing access by EU and UK vessels to each other's waters for 2019, provided that the UK grants such access for EU vessels. The second measure establishes forms of compensation for European fishermen and operators, in case their activities are temporarily hampered by Brexit.Statement follows.
