French Competition Authority: Opinion on mobile telephony markets

( March 11, 2013, 13:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The French Competition Authority has outlined the conditions for mobile telephone operators to share networks. In an opinion today, it said network sharing should be allowed in sparsely populated areas, but will be examined on a case-by-case basis. In built-up areas, however, where operators share radio access networks, the authority will be vigilant. The regulator also said that mobile operator Free's national roaming agreement with Orange should end in 2016. It raised concerns about a 4G roaming agreement in built-up areas because Free didn't obtain a license for this service and shouldn't be compensated for its financial decision.The full press release in French follows.
