Cross-party bill to avert no-deal leaves much to May’s discretion, UK Constitution Committee says

( April 4, 2019, 14:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK Prime Minister Theresa May would be required to seek an extension to the Article 50 period, but would leave discretion as to how it should be sought, the UK Constitution Committee said in its report on the EU Withdrawal No. 5 bill. The committee found that the bill would require May to move a motion the day after it receives Royal Assent, but it does not specify when she would be required to act on the motion if it were passed in the House of Commons. The bill also doesn’t provide for how any counterproposal from the European Council must be treated if conditions are attached to it, the committee said.The report is attached....
