Advocacy groups to refer 'systemic' market issues to Australian competition watchdog

( February 15, 2024, 04:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia’s supermarket, aviation and telecommunications industries may soon find themselves subject to additional regulatory scrutiny, after the government announced it would give designated advocacy groups special powers to raise “systemic” market issues with the country’s competition watchdog. In a joint statement, Competition Minister Andrew Leigh and Small Business Minister Julie Collins said the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission would have 90 days to consider and publicly respond to complaints made by the designated groups.
