Antitrust ruling in favor of China's music-copyright trade body upheld by top court

( April 21, 2022, 05:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Supreme People’s Court of China has dismissed an appeal filed by a Meizhou-based karaoke operator against a first-instance ruling issued by the Beijing Intellectual Property Court in June 2020, in which the Beijing IP court dismissed its claim that the China Audio-Video Copyright Association, or CAVCA, abused its dominance in the market for the licensing of film-like works or audio-visual products in karaoke-TV operations. The supreme court upheld the first-instance ruling in favor of CAVCA, saying that the evidence provided by the karaoke operator was insufficient to prove that CAVCA was engaged in refusing to deal or imposing unreasonable conditions on transactions.The Supreme People’s Court’s ruling is attached....
