UK live facial-recognition judgment is workable, police force says

( August 11, 2020, 11:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Wales Police, whose use of live facial-recognition technology triggered a landmark court case, today welcomed a judgment by the UK Court of Appeal, which said the deployment violated people's privacy rights. "I am confident this is a judgment that we can work with . . . ensuring [the public] can see we are using new technology in ways that are responsible and fair," Chief Constable Matt Jukes said. He said his force's policies have evolved recently, and that it's now in talks with the Home Office and Surveillance Camera Commissioner about any further necessary changes. South Wales Police has said that it would not be appealing today's ruling.Statement follows....
