Sony, Nintendo concessions prompt closure of UK CMA probe into automatic renewal

( April 13, 2022, 10:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Improvements offered by Sony and Nintendo, to address the UK Competition and Markets Authority's concerns about their auto-renewal practices for videogaming subscribers, have been accepted, the regulator said today. The CMA has closed its consumer-law probe as a result. The regulator said Sony has agreed to put in place measures to protect customers who are still paying for memberships unused in a long time. Nintendo also changed its business practices during the CMA's probe, so that Nintendo Switch Online Service is no longer sold with automatic renewal set as the default option.Statement follows.
