UK wants nuclear to cover 25 percent of demand by 2050 under upcoming energy security strategy

The energy security strategy, put forward in response to soaring energy prices and supply worries after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, will also ramp up offshore wind energy production, with the aim of producing 50 gigawatts by 2030 and reducing permitting for new offshore projects to one year, from the current four years. Domestic oil and gas will be boosted with a licensing round for new North Sea projects this autumn — a move unpopular with climate campaigners, who say boosting domestic fossil-fuel production will undermine the UK's net-zero aims. Statement follows. ...
