Meta, Snap, ByteDance, Google lose bid to appeal Section 230 loss in US 'addictive algorithms' litigation

( February 2, 2024, 22:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Meta Platforms, Snap, ByteDance's TikTok and Google lost a bid to have a federal appeals court review US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers' denial of their motion to dismiss litigation over "addictive" social media algorithms, with Gonzalez saying an appeal would be premature. "Currently, the Court has scheduled a multi-tracked approach to addressing myriad legal issues between the defendants, both corporate and individual, and three categories of plaintiffs (attorneys general, school districts, and individuals) many of which overlap with the Identified Issues," the judge wrote. "Certifying an interlocutory appeal at this stage, prior to the conclusion of this motion practice, would provide the Court of Appeals with a partial record of the legal issues, invite later piecemeal appeals, and disrupt coordination among parallel proceedings."See attached document....
