US senator decries YouTube monetization of pro-Russian content in Ukraine conflict

( February 25, 2022, 21:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A US senator wrote major online platforms urging them to prevent their misuse by Russia and Russian-linked entities, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In his letter to Google, Virginia Democrat Mark Warner said YouTube "continues to monetize the content of prominent influence actors that have been publicly connected to Russian influence campaign" including Russia Today, Sputnik and TASS. Those channels have carried content "specifically focused on the Ukraine conflict to be monetized with YouTube ads," Warner wrote.
