Apple gets preliminary approval of $14.8 million settlement of litigation over iCloud storage

( February 17, 2022, 17:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A federal judge in San Francisco has granted preliminary approval of a $14.8 million settlement of litigation that alleged Apple deceived iCloud subscribers and triggered privacy risks by storing their personal data on the servers of other cloud providers. The "value of the settlement is significant compared to the litigation risks and uncertainties," US Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler concluding in granting preliminary approval pending a hearing on final approval later this year. "The maximum recovery assumes complete success for the plaintiffs, which was not a guaranteed outcome. Apple was vigorously contesting the case and planned several motions, including a Daubert motion (in this expert-rich case), a motion for summary judgment, and a motion to decertify the class."See attached document....
