Indonesia's big airlines found guilty of price fixing, but cleared of cartel charge

( June 23, 2020, 14:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia’s biggest airlines have been found guilty of price fixing but cleared of cartel charges in a decision released today by the Business Competition Supervisory Commission, or KPPU. The seven airlines belong to three groups — Garuda Indonesia and budget subsidiary Citilink; the Lion Group, comprising Lion Air, Batik Air and Wings Air; and the Sriwijaya Air Group with Sriwijaya Air and NAM Air. The commission said they were guilty of concerted action to eliminate lower-priced ticket classes, but that this "meeting of the minds" did not meet the element of agreement needed to prove the existence of a cartel. No fines were imposed in consideration of the difficult state the airline industry is in due to Covid-19, but the KPPU ordered the airlines to notify it of any future plans that would affect ticket prices or the competitive landscape.The commission's statement, in Indonesian, is attached. ...
