South Korean regulator fines car app Banaple over driver restrictions

( January 8, 2016, 12:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Korea Fair Trade Commission has decided to impose corrective orders and fines of 400 million won ($331,167) on smartphone application developer Banaple for allegedly unfair trading practices. The company operates a platform named Logi to connect customers and chauffeur service providers. The firm did not charge drivers usage fees if they did not register with its competitors from February 2012 to August 2012. It also decided not to arrange car services if a driver used other applications from April 2012 to August 2012. Generally, drivers use several applications at the same time. The KFTC said such behavior was a violation of Section 23 of the Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act and expected improved competition in the industry.  The regulator's statement, in Korean, is attached....
